From Boulder, Utah, a short pedal along hwy 12 to camp and visit the falls at Calf Creek before another short day to beers in Escalante. Turning south for two nights at Kodachrome (and a day of trail riding and hiking), next tackling a washed out (and closed) Cottonwood Canyon road past a silty Paria River for a ranger station with water about 42 miles in. Leaving the balmy White House CG (4,300) for Jacob Lake (7,900), a hellishly washboarded road through Rock House Valley, passing along the west side of Vermillion Cliffs before hitting 89A for a 12 mile, 3,000 ft end-of-day climb up the Kaibab Plateau to Jacob Lake. After a night of rain, a lift from good folks drops me into some dope digs on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.
